HelloMuse's Korean Tasty Food

Famous Korean traditional course meal 'Han Jeong Sik' restaurant 'Deul Pul'

Hello, Muse!

I'm actually still full because I ate too much last weekend. I had a date with my boyfriend on Saterday and my uncle's birthday party on Sunday. My boyfriend took me a Korean traditional food restaurant near Geongbok palace. He said it's a second branch of the restaurant and the restaurant was introduced as good restaurant which is using the best ingredients and a honest recipe on Korean TV show ' Young-Don Lee's food X-file'

It was kind of late lunch time but we had to wait for our sits. Most of the customers were middle age people and families. It seemed like we are the youngest customers in the restaurant except the kids.  So I looked around the restaurant during the waiting time. This restaurant is a remodeled Korean traditional house. There are 4-5 rooms for a private lunch or dinner. The clerk said we need to book a week ago if we want the room on weekend. It opens 11:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Let me talk about Hanjeongsik which we tried. It is a full-course Korean meal with an array of savory side dishes. The most lavish of hanjeongsik traditional originated with the banquets served in the royal palaces or the homes of aristocrats. Usually the course starts with a cold appetizer and gruel, and the main dishes include dishes mixed with seasoning either grilled, boiled, steamed, fried, or salted. Some Korean desserts may be served at the very last. Actually the types or dishes served in the hanjeongsik vary significantly according to the season or region.

We started with the Korean style pumpkin soup and a bowl of green salad with perilla seeds sauce. Buckwheat crepe and fried kimchi was coming next. I wrap the kimchi with the crepe in a roll and ate. It's enough to raise my appetite XD And here is my favorite!!! the smoked duck looked nothing special and I automatically sought some sauce for it. Actually, many Korean people loves dipping sauces and plenty of seasonings. It was the first time I tried the smoked duck without any sauce with it. BUT!! Gosh! the meat was really juicy and the pickled radish and garlic were perfectly matching with the smoked duck. I totally forgot asking a sauce. It was really great. All the dishes served with a small portion so you might be disappointed but remember that there will be more foods coming!

  • Ggokdaji Jeongsik: 15,000 KRW (1 serve) - We ordered!!
  • Dalmaji Jeongsik: 24,000 KRW (1serve)

(You can order those course menu when you come with more than two people.)

The next dish was Dealggae Jook which is a thick perilla seeds soup with chopped mushrooms. I'm a huge fan of  perilla seeds so I ordered extra perilla seeds soup in addition to the course meal. My boyfriend tried to stop me from ordering this because he thought the course meal will be enough for two. But I won and I could try this soft and deep taste of this soup.

Next, 'Japchea' which is a sweet potato noodle (clear noodle) with vegetables and steamed dumplings came on my table. There were three kinds of dumplings: chewy potato dumplings, stuffed mushrooms and juicy pork meat dumplings. Everything was satisfied with my taste. Ha...yeahs I was getting full from this part but we still left more foods. The last part of this course meal is rice and side dishes which is the daily meal of Korean people. Six side dishes made with vegetables, grilled fish and soybean paste stew and a special rice were served. My boyfriend and I took a deep breath before we start these dishes. The soybean paste stew was not really special than any others but I really loved the rice cooked with dried radish greens. I ate this rice which is exactly to my taste with special soy sauce. You can also eat this rice mix with all the vegetable side dishes and the soy sauce like Bibimbab. I strongly recommend this place if you want to try home-made Korean traditional food! :D
